going to places that they have not been before will seem like a
dream come true for most of them. This is because they get to
places where everything will look new
, the adventures are definitely fresh and the surrounding all too vague and
strange that makes the travel more exciting. However, not all places are created equal.
This goes to show that not all rules and regulations are applicable to every
place or location. That is why it is extremely important to know some
information about the place itself and identify the governing laws...

[12.03.2009] What does the run mean for me?
Running helps resurrect my inner introvert, and I cherish those long runs alone. It gives me opportunity to escape the constant buzz of my home and business lives, and get back to basics. It is a great time for prayer and reflection.
[12.10.2008] Marriott
I recently stayed at
the Marriott Marquis
before a 10 day
Canada/New England
Cruise. The hotel
has a great location
and is in walking
distance to Cental
Park as well. The
room was
comfortable. We
stayed on the 32
floor with a nice
view of the city and
part of Times
Square. The service
was great. The bed
comfortable and the
bathroom a nice
size. The tv was new
and had a great
picture. I would
stay here again if
in the area. I would
say that I like
staying in the
Central Park area a
little better over
the hustle and
bustle of Times
Square.

We stayed at Locanda
Rosati in mid May
2008. It was
*everything* all the
other reviews said:
Beautiful, simple,
elegant, etc. The
food was the best we
had in all of Italy
and the company was
good too. Gianpiero
speaks great english
and was the perfect
host. It was our
first stop on our
first Italian
vacation and we
loved it. Like a
second
honeymoon.Three
things not mentioned
in other reviews:1)
The exact GPS
coordinates are: N
42 degrees 41.956'
and E 12 degrees
4.267'. Even with
the directions from
the website, this
place was REALLY
hard to find.
Orvieto is quite
complicated. Most
GPS units allow you
to enter direct
coordinates so use
these.2) There is
dial-up internet
available for a
small fee on a
shared computer.3)
Our room on the top
floor had a bathtub
instead of a shower.
The wife didn't
mind but a bathtub
is irritating for
guys.You have to
stay here!

I currently live in
Des Moines and have
relatives in the
Black Hills of South
Dakota. In my
opinion, the drive
to Mt. Rushmore
during a week long
trip is just not
worth it. You're
looking at about 12
hours one way (with
no stops), and
there's very little
between the two
cities except for a
few possible stops
in Omaha and Sioux
Falls. As a previous
poster said, I'd
strongly encourage
you to attend the
Iowa State Fair for
a truly midwestern
experience.
Otherwise, you could
travel south on I-80
to Kansas City or go
east to the
Mississippi and work
your way down to St.
Louis. With the cost
of gas, however, it
might be cheaper to
fly into Des Moines
and out another city
instead of trying to
work your way back.
Hope you have a good
trip!

A week long road
trip from Des Moines
to the Black Hills
of South Dakota,
including Mt.
Rushmore, and back
is possible if you
don't mind spending
a couple of long
days on the road. We
have driven from Des
Moines to Sioux
Falls, SD and then
to Rapid City, SD in
one long day. Rapid
City is a good base
from which to
explore the Black
Hills, Mt. Rushmore,
the Crazy Horse
Memorial, Deadwood,
Wind Cave Nat'l.
Park and Badlands
Nat'l. Park. You
could also make a
side trip to
Devil's Tower, WY
before returning to
Des Moines.If you
have any interest in
rural middle
America, you may be
able to attend the
Iowa State Fair
which is held over a
two week period in
mid-Aug. in Des
Moines. Within a two
hour drive from Des
Moines you can see
Amish settlements
(Kalona area, near
Iowa City), the
famous bridges of
Madison Co. (near
Winterset, IA), the
Field of Dreams
(near Dyersville,
IA) or the Henry
Doorley Zoo in
Omaha, NE. As the
previous poster
mentioned, Kansas
City or Minneapolis
are within 3 - 4
hours drive of Des
Moines and both
offer plenty of
historical and
cultural
attractions. Enjoy
your trip!
[10.07.2008] pearl
It's about a 10
hour drive minimum
to Mt. Rushmore.
That's pretty far
off. Are you wanting
to see anything? St.
Louis is maybe 6
hours away, Chicago
is about 6 hours.
Kansas City is about
3. Omaha is maybe
3-4. Minneapolis is
about 4 hours, I
think. So with all
those cities, there
is plenty to do and
see.
[10.07.2008] mouse
We are going to a
wedding in Des
Moines in august and
looking to take a
week long trip after
the weeding any
ideas on how to plan
the week we would
like to dive
somewhere and see as
much as possible
like Mt. Rushmour
etc.
[10.07.2008] explorer
Lake Otsego,
Cooperstown NY,
staying in the
historic quaint town
or out in the nearby
countryside.
Personally, we have
it on our list for
early June or after
the kids return to
school. Too crowded
with the baseball
people. Your little
one would enjoy some
of the Farmer's
Museum. Staying in
the countryside on
the lake would give
an opportunity for
.... well,
countryside....and
paddling, boating,
fishing. If you can
only vacation in the
middle of the
summer, keep this on
your list for your
long weekends. Rates
are very low first
week or two in June,
too.
[10.07.2008] ann
I recently moved to
Albany from Buffalo
and would like to
take a vacation this
summer. I have a
toddler, so a 2 hour
drive or less would
be best. I've been
to Boston, Cape Cod,
Thousand Islands,
Lake George, and
Ogunquit Maine and
don't know where
else to go. Any
ideas would be
appreciated. I only
have thought of
somewhere on Jersey
shore but I don't
know how far that
would be...
