Jamaica - When To Go...
Jamaica's tropical climate is at its most appealing during the peak
mid-December to mid-April tourist season, when rainfall is lowest and the heat
is tempered by cooling trade winds; it can also get quite cool at night at this
time, so it's worth packing a sweater.
Things get noticeably hotter during the
summer, and particularly in September and
October the humidity can become oppressive. September is also
the most threatening month of the annual hurricane season,
which runs officially from June 1 to October 31; however, on average, the big
blows only hit about once a decade.
Prices, and crowds
at the attractions and beaches, peak during high season. Outside this period it's quieter everywhere,
and though the main resorts throb with life pretty much year-round, quieter
areas like Port
Antonio and Treasure
Beach can feel a little lifeless. The good news is that in the off-season hotel prices fall by up to 25 percent, there are more bargains to be had in every field of activity, and a number of festivals - including the
massive annual Reggae Sumfest in Montego
Bay - inject some zip.
Jamaica is a different
world, full of glorious white sand beaches, lush vegetation,
mountains, red earth, the smell of saltwater, and the humidity of tropical
climes. People are friendly and laid back, operating on Jamaican
time, lackadaisical and easygoing, with no real
sense of hurry.
I have always wanted to go
there, to visit the land of jerk chicken
and Bob Marley, and paid little attention
to the stories of hold ups and the hostile treatment of tourists relayed to me
by others. I kept those stories in mind and just decided to be cautious. I would
experience the country firsthand, beholding Jamaica's offerings with my own two
eyes.

| | [21.09.2009] Awesome experience at Sandals Grande
| My husband and I booked the Sandals Grande Ocho Rios in Jamaica for our Honeymoon. We were both browsing Tripadvisor before we made our final decision for hotel selection. We picked the Sandals Grande because it has some of the best most recent reviews and well Sandals does an awesome job at marketing the hotel so it looked just amazing.
This was our first all-inclusive trip, we've traveled to Italy previously so didn't really know what to expect. We ended up selecting the Honeymoon Plantation Villa, One Bedroom Suite with Pool and Concierge Service. Our room was quite nice, much better then we expected. As well, the semi-private pool we very clean. The housekeeper service was amazing, they came like 2 or 3 times a day. |
| [12.10.2008] christmas family trip
| My husband and i
have just returned
from a holiday in
new york staying at
the excelsior.
having read some bad
reviews were a
little apprehensive
but all was
fantastic. the door
personel were very
friendly and helpful
as was the guy who
took our suitcases
to our room. on line
we had ordered a
fridge and this was
installed in our
room immediately we
got into the room.
the room had twin
beds and was a
really good size
with a beautiful
ensuite. the view
was absolutely
fantastic looking
over the little park
next to the museum
to an incredible sky
line. had little to
do with front desk
staff but they were
pleasant enough and
the guy on the
information desk was
very helpful. the
room was kept
spotless and towels
changed often. great
position with metro
at the end of the
road. would
recommend this hotel
- had a wonderful
time there. |
